The short version
- We collect only what the app needs to book appointments: your account details, your profile, your bookings and a token for sending you notifications.
- We don’t sell your information, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.
- We don’t use your GPS location, contacts, camera or microphone.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app, under Profile → Delete account.
1. Who we are
FretCuts is a booking app for independent barbers. Clients use it to find a barber, choose a service and request an appointment. Barbers (we call them providers) use it to list their services and hours and to manage their bookings.
FretCuts is made and operated by FretDev, LLC (“FretDev”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the app collects, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and how you can delete it.
FretCuts does not take payments. You pay your barber directly, outside the app, so we never collect card or bank details.
2. What we collect
Account information
- Email address, used to sign in and to send you sign-up codes and password-reset codes.
- Name.
- Password. Our sign-in service stores it in a protected form. We can never see it.
- Account type: client or provider.
Profile information you add
- Phone number, optional.
- Profile photo, optional. The app only reads the one photo you pick from your library. It resizes that photo on your device before uploading it. We don’t look at the rest of your photo library.
- If you’re a provider: your bio, the location you type in (for example, a shop name or neighbourhood), your time zone, your services with their descriptions, durations and prices, your weekly hours and your time off.
Bookings
For each appointment, we record who the client and provider are, the service, its price and duration, the start and end time, and its status (for example, pending, confirmed, cancelled or completed). Appointments don’t contain messages or notes.
Device and diagnostic information
- Push notification token. Your phone gives the app a token so that we can send you booking updates and reminders.
- Crash reports. If the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a report with the app version, operating system, device model, the name of the screen you were on, and technical details of the error. Reports aren’t linked to your account. The app never adds your name to them, and before a report leaves your device it removes email addresses, phone numbers, sign-in tokens and your device’s name. Our crash-reporting service is set not to store IP addresses.
- Server logs. Our servers log each request: which feature was used, whether it worked, how long it took, and a request ID. The logs don’t contain names, email addresses, phone numbers or what you typed.
3. What we don’t collect
- Precise or approximate location from your device’s GPS. The only location data is the text a provider types into their profile.
- Your contacts, camera, microphone, or any photos other than the one you choose.
- Payment details.
- Advertising identifiers. FretCuts has no ads and no third-party analytics or advertising tools.
We don’t sell or rent your personal information. We don’t share it for advertising, and we don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
4. How we use it
- To create your account, sign you in, and help you reset your password.
- To show providers to clients, work out free time slots, and make and manage bookings.
- To send notifications when a booking is requested, confirmed, declined, cancelled or rescheduled, and a reminder about 24 hours before a confirmed appointment.
- To find and fix crashes and errors, keep the service reliable, and prevent misuse.
- To meet legal obligations, and to respond to lawful requests from authorities.
If the law where you live requires a legal basis, we rely on providing the service you asked for (for your account, profile and bookings), and on our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and secure (for crash reports and logs).
5. What other users can see
- Providers: anyone signed in to FretCuts can see your name, photo, bio, location text, time zone, services and prices, and when you’re free to book.
- Clients: a provider you book with sees your name and the details of that appointment. Other users don’t see your profile.
- Your email address and phone number aren’t shown to other users.
- After an account is deleted, other people’s booking history shows “Deleted user” in place of that person’s name.
6. Services we use
We use a few service providers to run FretCuts. They handle your information only to provide their service to us, under their own privacy and security terms.
| Service | What it does for us | What it handles |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services (AWS) | Hosts our servers, database and photo storage, handles sign-in (Amazon Cognito) and sends account email (Amazon SES) | Everything listed in section 2 except crash reports |
| Google Firebase Cloud Messaging | Delivers push notifications on Android, and passes them to Apple on iOS | Push token and notification text |
| Apple Push Notification service | Delivers push notifications on iPhone | Push token and notification text |
| Sentry | Collects crash and error reports | Crash reports, with personal details removed |
Notification text can include the other person’s name and the time of the appointment, for example “Your Haircut with Marcus on October 2 is confirmed.”
Our servers are in the United States. If you use FretCuts from another country, your information is transferred to and stored in the United States.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights or safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger or sale of our business. In a merger or sale, this policy would continue to apply to your information.
7. How long we keep it
While your account is open, we keep your information for as long as you use FretCuts. When you delete your account, this is what happens to each kind of data:
| Data | What happens when you delete your account |
|---|---|
| Sign-in account (email, name, password) | Deleted immediately |
| Contact details, profile photo, push token | Deleted immediately |
| Provider profile, services, hours and time off | Deleted immediately |
| Upcoming appointments | Cancelled immediately, and the other person is notified |
| Appointment records | Kept for 2 years without your name or contact details, then deleted automatically. They contain only account IDs that no longer lead to a name, plus the service, the time and the status, so the other person’s booking history stays accurate. |
| A minimal account record (account type and dates, with the name replaced by “Deleted user”) | Deleted automatically after 2 years |
| Server logs | Deleted automatically after 3 months |
| Crash reports | Deleted automatically after 90 days at most |
| Database backups | Deleted automatically after 35 days |
8. Deleting your account
In the app
Open Profile, tap Delete account, and confirm. The deletion happens straight away, as described in the table above. You’ll be signed out, and you can’t undo it.
Without the app
If you no longer have the app, email privacy@fretdev.com from the address you signed up with, and ask us to delete your FretCuts account. We may ask you to confirm the request. We’ll delete the account within 30 days and let you know when it’s done.
9. Your choices and rights
- See and correct your information: your name, phone number and photo can be edited in Profile, and a provider’s bio, location, services and hours can be edited in the app.
- Notifications: you can turn off FretCuts notifications at any time in your phone’s settings. You’ll still see your bookings in the app.
- Photo access: you can change or remove FretCuts’ photo library access in your phone’s settings. The app only asks when you choose a profile photo.
- Delete: see section 8.
Depending on where you live (for example, California, or the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict how we use it. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@fretdev.com. We’ll respond within the time the law requires, and we won’t treat you differently for asking. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
10. Security
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Data is encrypted at rest on AWS. Sign-in tokens are kept in your phone’s secure storage (the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore), and each account can only read and change its own data and the bookings it’s part of. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and fix problems quickly.
11. Children
FretCuts isn’t intended for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child under 13 has created an account, email privacy@fretdev.com and we’ll delete it.
12. Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top. If a change significantly affects how we use your information, we’ll also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
Questions or requests about your privacy: email privacy@fretdev.com.
